I had to mail back (my) the 85mm lens yesterday. In my mind, the weather was appropriately gloomy as I walked the block to the post office holding the box. I felt very comfortable using this lens in the short time I had it. I wouldn’t say it ‘fit like a glove’ (mostly because it’s [...]

After last summer’s frantic visit to Storm King, we promised ourselves that we’d return with more than one hour allocated to visiting the 500 acre property. Our goal this year was to leave the city by 10:30 and eat a picnic lunch on one of the shaded lawns. We didn’t end up leaving Brooklyn until [...]

I frequently walk between Brooklyn’s Park Slope and Carroll Gardens neighborhoods, either via Union Street or Carroll Street. Parts of each walk have their charm, especially when I enter the outskirts of tree-lined Carroll Gardens. However, between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens lies the Gowanus Canal, also known as an EPA Superfund site. When it [...]

I’m going to keep this short and sweet because it’s 70 degrees outside and I don’t want to be in front of my computer any longer than necessary! This is the perfect weather to picnic in Prospect Park, snacking on fresh berries and tomato sandwiches. For the meantime, I’ll content myself with a jar of [...]

Note: It was incredibly difficult to narrow each month down to a solitary picture, especially when most months contained trips, birthdays, weddings, and incredible food. Here are the pictures I feel best captured each month of our 2010. January January signified my true immersion into learning about the New York foodshed. Throughout 2010, I took [...]

We spent Saturday on Governors Island. We didn’t rent one of these bikes, but plan on it next time! There’ll be more photos and background on the island in my next post.

Temperatures climbed and kept climbing this past holiday weekend. Record breaking temperatures–while at times stifling–didn’t keep us from wandering a slew of outdoor parks, pausing to break up the outdoor heat with some 400 degree baking. Speaking of baking, stay tuned for a 4th of July meal recap. The kitchen (and cooks) are still recovering!

I’m dedicating several of my next posts to pictures from our recent trip to the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. Our 12 day trip spanned Dubrovnik, the Elaphite Islands, Split, and Hvar. My memories of our trip are flooded with color, from the rust orange roofs of Dubrovnik’s Old City to the turquoise Adriatic, to the [...]

For the past few weeks, flowers resembling fuzzy orbs have been popping up everywhere. I’m fascinated by their shape and texture — the way the circle of flowers seems to float in the air like a large lollipop. These flowers are ornamental onions, also known as alliums. There are hundreds of varieties, including onions and [...]
